What is functional rhinoplasty? Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to correct the shape and/or function of the nose. It may have two purposes: * Cosmetic: Reducing the size of the nose, removing the nasal hump, lifting the tip, correcting asymmetry. * Functional: Resolving breathing difficulties. How long does the operation take? •It usually takes around two hours. •A revision (second operation), however, may take a little longer. Is it a very painful operation? Contrary to what most people think: •Severe pain is rare. •You’ll experience more pressure and a blocked nose. •You may experience mild to moderate discomfort for the first 3–4 days. Is general anesthesia used? Yes, it is usually performed under general anesthesia. The patient feels nothing during the operation. Who is eligible for nose surgery? •Aged 18 and over (people whose bone development is complete) •Those in good general health •Those with realistic expectations What should you be aware of after surgery? •Sleeping with your head elevated during the first few weeks •To avoid getting hit in the nose •Avoid strenuous exercise •Use the creams and sprays prescribed by your doctor regularly.
